A letter from Kanata Food Cupboard’s outgoing Board Chair

As I come to the end of my term as President and Board Chair of the Kanata Food Cupboard, I want to take a moment to thank the people who make this organization what it is: our volunteers, staff, donors, and fellow board members.

It has been a privilege to serve alongside such a dedicated and generous community. Every day, I have seen firsthand the care, commitment, and integrity that each of you brings to ensuring our friends, families, colleagues and neighbours have access to food with dignity. The work you do matters, and it makes a real difference in people’s lives.

I am especially proud of two milestones we achieved together during my time as Chair. First, spearheading the move to our new location on Teron Road. This was a major undertaking that required coordination, patience, and teamwork across staff, volunteers, and the board. Locating a space that was affordable, centrally located, and accessible and then transitioning to the new location was a huge undertaking. It allowed us to continue serving the community while making an important step towards a food cupboard that is welcoming and fit for the future.

Second, leading the strategic planning process that has positioned the Kanata Food Cupboard for long-term sustainability. This work was not just about planning for today, but about ensuring the organization remains strong, resilient, and responsive to community needs well into the future.

To our volunteers, thank you for your time, compassion, and steady presence. To our staff, Cara-Leigh, Jessica and Kaitlyn, thank you for your professionalism, dedication, and care for our neighbours. To our donors and supporters, thank you for believing in our mission and making our work possible. Finally, to my fellow board members, thank you for your thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to strong governance –  and of course, for always putting up with me.

While I am stepping down from the role of President and Chair, my confidence in the future of the Kanata Food Cupboard has never been stronger. I look forward to continuing to support this organization and to seeing it thrive in the years ahead.

With sincere gratitude,

Cody Guthrie
Outgoing President & Chairperson of the Board of Directors
