Kanata Food Cupboard Board Update

After six months of passionate and engaged leadership, Deborah (Deb) Abbott has stepped down as Kanata Food Cupboard Board Chair for health reasons. This was a difficult decision for Deb who remains deeply passionate about KFC’s mission and proud of the work being done by our volunteers, donors, staff, and community partners.

In her time as Board Chair, Deb made significant contributions to KFC based on her many years of experience in the food insecurity sector. Deb championed the expansion of our Fresh Food Program and the launch of two new initiatives: the Uber Transportation Program for unhoused and vulnerable families, and the Birthday Box Program. In addition, Deb supported making our space and our communications more inclusive and welcoming, including developing ideas to refresh the entrance to our shopping area. Deb also provided operational insights to improve our budgeting and accounting services.

The Board is grateful for Deb’s leadership and enthusiasm during her time as Chair. A transition plan is in place, with our Vice-Chair, Board Member, and long-time volunteer Lynn Barclay taking over in the interim. KFC’s work will continue uninterrupted and focused on serving our Kanata community.
