The Kanata Food Cupboard is a non-profit charitable organization recognized in Canada as a registered charity.  Our primary mission is to provide the healthiest possible food choices by engaging and inspiring our Kanata community.  Services are provided to all residents of Kanata who self-identify as needing food assistance. 

 

Position Summary

The Warehouse Assistant will be assisting the Kanata Food Cupboard with daily activities in both the warehouse as well as the store area. They will collaborate with the Volunteer and Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of daily operations, including inventory control, organizing donations, and maintaining a safe and efficient workspace. The Warehouse Assistant will collaborate with the Client and Community Outreach Coordinator, helping prepare for seasonal programs. Additionally, they will assist families while they shop for groceries, ensuring a positive and supportive experience as they access food assistance.

  • Inventory management
  • Stocking shelves
  • Sorting donations
  • Hamper packing
  • Accepting and picking up donations
  • Packaging fresh food donations
  • Event support and assistance with event preparation

 

Employment Type:  Temporary, Full Time at 35 hours/week

Length of Employment: 8 weeks

Start date and end date:  June 30, 2025 to August 22, 2025

Work Schedule:  Days with the possibility of certain evenings and weekends if needed.

Pay:  $18.20/hour

 

Eligibility

This position is part of Canada Summer Jobs, a program of the Government of Canada.
To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills with the ability to problem solve and find resolutions to issues/conflict.
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven time management skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications an asset.
  • Good attendance/work record.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive as needed.
